Publisher and Co-owner of Noticia a Long Island Media Press Corp. publication, Silvana Diaz was born September 22, 1985 in Lima, Peru. In 1989 she came to the United States along with her parents and one year old sister, escaping terrorism and death threats. She graduated in 2008 from F.I.T. completing her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Fashion Design.

Her parents William and Vicky Diaz founded Noticia in 1991. In 2009, Silvana and her sister Cinthia became the new owners of this well known, weekly publication. Silvana, at a very young age, learned community awareness, leadership qualities and what it takes to run a business. Involving her self with the newspaper since the age of 9 has giving her the opportunity and exposure to become a young leader. In 2005, Silvana along with her parents founded Fundacion Hispanoamericana, a scholarship foundation for Hispanic students of Long Island, NY; an organization inspired by her own life experience as an immigrant student.

Silvana’s experience varies from becoming a Clerk Aide for the Town of Hempstead, Youth Counselor for Adelante of Suffolk County, to owning an entertainment company, Top of the Hill Entertainment. Most recently she left her Caseworker/Minority Outreach position with Congressman Steve Israel of nearly four years and a half to join her sister in bringing forth the family business. She is also an active participant in her community, volunteering in various organization’s committees, fund-raisers, and cultural events. Some of Silvana’s accomplishments include, organizing a Town of Hempstead Latino Pride Day in 2004, winning a beauty pageant, putting together a very successful Hispanic networking event for Noticia in 2005, founder of a networking and social group, Long Island Young Latino Professionals and most recently she was appointed Chairwoman of the NAHP’s (National Association of Hispanic Publication) Marketing Committee, making her the youngest Latina to ever hold such position in this nationally recognized organization.

Her other interests include salsa dancing and painting. She grew up in Baldwin N.Y. and currently resides in Levittown with her two year old son.

The inaugural OUTSTANDING ADVOCATES FOR CHILDREN & YOUTH AWARDS COCKTAIL RECEPTION took place on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, 6pm to 8pm, at The Omni, 333 Earle Ovington Boulevard, Uniondale.  Hosted by Forchelli, Curto, Deegan, Schwartz, Mineo, Cohn, and Terrana LLP.
