Proceeds support the John J. Byrne Community Center of Uniondale's programs and services for the children and families of the region! Jay’s business acumen and technical knowledge combine to provide clients the guidance and planning invaluable in their endeavors to achieve success. The firm motto, “Continually Planning Ahead” is best exemplified by Jay. His particular areas of expertise includes business evolution strategies, mergers and acquisitions, financing and investment banking, and tax planning for the closely held corporation, its shareholders/officers and individuals. Jay is a business growth and strategy advisor to numerous companies, with both national and international presence. He is frequently called upon by clients to evaluate and negotiate purchase and sale transactions, deal structuring, and formulate advantageous tax strategies. In keeping with his financial insight and creativity, Jay is the administrator of our Growth and Strategy Business Advisory Sector, providing the plan design and strategies for business and individual clients in the areas of finance, strategic efficiencies, and conservation of wealth, integrated with estate and retirement planning. A partial list of the Industries in which our client service expertise has evolved includes: Education, Publishing & Media, Manufacturing, Retail and Wholesale Trade. Jay has served as an advisor to the Board of Directors of The Princeton Review, Inc., (a NASDAQ listed company) a nationally franchised company currently doing business in 40 states and 7 countries, and the Trustees of the National Fire Sprinkler Association (a national trade association), Treasurer and Member of the Board of Directors of a not-for-profit organization, The Richard J. O’Brien Foundation, advisor to XpresSpa (spas located in airports throughout the country), Krinos Foods Inc. and Oheka Castle, as well advisor to other CEO’s of numerous companies and individuals of entrepreneurial spirit and significant wealth. Jay’s career, after graduating Hofstra in 1973 with a B.B.A. in Accounting, began with Oppenheim Appel Dixon & Company, then the 12th largest accounting firm in the country (now merged into Grant Thornton). In 1977, he became a manager with a medium sized regional CPA firm with primary emphasis in audit, taxation and client services. Jay formed Shulman & Sugarman, CPA’s in 1979, the predecessor to J.T. Shulman & Company, P.C., established in 1985. He has participated in and met the Continuing Professional Education Requirements of the profession and is a member of both New York State and the AICPA. Jay is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, National Conference of CPA Practitioners, and Long Island Association of Businessmen. He has received his accreditation in business valuation from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and has an insurance license. The inaugural OUTSTANDING ADVOCATES FOR CHILDREN & YOUTH AWARDS COCKTAIL RECEPTION took place on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, 6pm to 8pm, at The Omni, 333 Earle Ovington Boulevard, Uniondale.
