DONOR APPRECIATION PROGRAM
Support Dr. Mary Cameron as a recipient of the "2011 Outstanding Advocates For Children & Youth Award" presented by John J. Byrne Community Center.
Dr. Mary Cameron, a dynamic professional, with years of experience as a Child Care Executive, is known and respected as an accomplished motivational leader, educator, mentor, mother and wife. A woman of sound intellect, generous spirit and wide exposure. Her credentials include Hon. Doctorate in Philosophy, a Masters in Business Administration, Bachelors of Science and an Associate in Early Childhood Education. She is an active member of The Black Business Women Association of New York State, The Association for Female Executives, Women for Affirmative Action and various other professional organizations. She is also listed in The World's Who's Who of Women, Two Thousand Notable American Women and The International Who's Who. She has received the State of New York Governor Appreciation Award for Child Care Services, 1992, Jamaica National Overseas/Gleaner Company 1995 Honor Award, Nassau County Child Care Council Award for Dedicated Services and Professional Mother of the Year by the Coalition for Community Well Being. She has extensive experience as a Communication Leader having served in this capacity for 5 years at East New York Seventh-day Adventist Church, 8 years at Ebenezer Seventh-day Adventist Church and 15 years at Bethany Seventh-day Adventist Church. On three occasions, she was awarded the Excellence in Communication Award from the Northeastern Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists, the Positive Image Communication award, and received the Northeastern Conference Layperson Counselors Volunteer Appreciation Award. In 2005, Dr. Cameron was appointed to the Northeastern Conference Academy Board of education. She was named Woman of the Year 1996 - 1997 by American Biographical Institute and has been honored to receive numerous citations from Nassau County Executive Office and the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County Million Women Builders Award, and the NYS State Senator "Women of Distinction" Award. In 1999, she was the recipient of The New York State Governor’s Award - “Woman of Excellence” and also The Distinguished Service Award from Brooklyn Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Greater New York Conference and from the Bethany Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Northeastern Conference. She served as Advisor in developing the first issue of Nick- Jr. Magazine. Dr. Cameron hosted a weekly program on Cablevision where she is director and producer on LI Public Access Television. In 2005, she was awarded the first Presidential Award from the President of the Atlantic Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. In 2000 Dr. Cameron visited the People’s Republic of China with People’s Ambassador Early Childhood Delegation. She has written and published several articles throughout her career. Dr. Cameron serves on several Professional Boards including the Child Care Council of Nassau County, African American Health Education & Development Foundation, Coalition for Child Care Of Nassau County Accreditation, The Coalition for Community Well-Being, American Biographical Institute Board of Advisors, National Association for Child Care Professionals, and a member of The Nassau County Child Care Commission. She holds membership in the following organizations: Black Women Enterprises, Friends of Uniondale Library, National Association for Female Executives, State of New York Division for Woman Nassau County Advisory, NACCP, Schomburg Society, National Council of Negro Women, Inc. She was the co-chair of the Nassau County Not-for profit Early Childhood Directors Association. The National Association of Child Care Professionals in November 2001 named Dr. Cameron as State Liaison, for the State of New York. In addition, she served as a board member of Sustainable Long Island, an organization that focuses on strengthening communities. In 2002 she received both the Central Nassau Club Senior Club Business Award and the Nassau County Legislator’s 5th Annual Women’s Trailblazers of the New Millennium Award. She was appointed by the Nassau County Executive to numerous Taskforces including Family Violence and the Rosa Parks Project. She was appointed to chair the Advisory Committee of the Nassau Health Care Corporation for the sale and development of the land, which consists of the Holly Patterson Nursing Home. She is a recent graduate of the Nassau County Citizens Police Academy. She has implemented a yearly program for the Nassau County Police Officers, which is considered one of the best programs for Police and the Community. In 2011, she was awarded “Sisters in Adventism” by the Agape Seventh-day Adventist Church, joining such notable women as Dr. Eva B. Dykes. Sojourner Truth and Dr. Lottie Blake. Most importantly, she loves the Lord and is a friend of all people. Proceeds support the John J. Byrne Community Center of Uniondale's programs and services for the children and families of the region! The inaugural OUTSTANDING ADVOCATES FOR CHILDREN & YOUTH AWARDS COCKTAIL RECEPTION took place on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at The Omni, 333 Earle Ovington Boulevard, Uniondale.
