EVENT DETAILS
Proceeds support the John J. Byrne Community Center of Uniondale's programs and services for the children and families of the region! Allison Kastner has always believed that children deserve their basic needs taken care of, both emotionally and physically, in order to reach their potential. Ms. Kastner instinctively put this philosophy into practice at a very young age. Many of her earlier activities and positions demonstrated her desire to surround herself with and nurture children. In 2003, Allison joined an educationally supervised community service program Teens As Leaders. The member requirements included a weekly leadership meeting and a minimum of 30 hours of after school community service, such as helping at Ronald McDonald House and The Nassau County Red Cross, to name a few.Allison was given a commendation from her supervisor which included the remark "Allison went above and beyond the required hours of community service because of her love to help out and work with children." While still in high school, Ms. Kastner enrolled in a Pre-College accredited class at C.W. Post- CLASSP(Consortia for Learning and Service to Special Populations.)This program also included an internship with hands on experience at the Plainview Jewish Community Center. There, Ms. Kastner assisted in classes for children with various special needs and learning differences, which has made her even more appreciative of children's uniqueness and potential. Throughout her years at Syosset High School and during some College vacation breaks, and summer breaks, Allison was employed at Sportime Gym, at the children's nursery room, as a child caretaker attendant. When it was time for college in 2005, an education program at Dowling College, Oakdale seemed like a natural fit. But Allison decided, after completing a year of education training, that every time she volunteered at or participated in an event, whether for children or adults, she got an "adrenaline rush" and loved every detail of the event business. In 2006, Allison attended Lynn University in Florida and graduated with a Bachelor degree in Hospitality and Hotel Management. Her first job after college was at The Roslyn Clairemont Hotel. She is presently working at a law firm in NYC, Otterbourg, Steindler, Houston and Rosen. She often works with her mother, Sheila of Kastner Fundraising Projects and has just recently assisted the innovative Red Elephant Events, a corporate and social event planning company, with a major event in NYC. In addition to Allison's love for children is her fondness for animals. Allison volunteered to help out at the first gala event 10 years ago for, Pet Peeves of LI, Inc., an umbrella organization that acts as "the voice of Long Island pets." Money raised from the event touches the lives of animals, senior citizens and youths through their animal welfare, humane education and pet therapy programs for the elderly and sick children. Allison continues to support Pet Peeves by purchasing tickets and inviting guests to their annual Pet Peeves event at Cresthollow Country Club. Allison is very excited about raising money for John Byrnes Community Center of Uniondale, which is an intergenerational, multicultural, multiservice community center that provides a healthy mix of recreational and social activities focused on the needs of children and families. "I hope to have the ability to continue helping children and charitable organizations for many years to come" says Allison. Allison, thanks friends and family for their support on this worthwhile mission. The inaugural OUTSTANDING ADVOCATES FOR CHILDREN & YOUTH AWARDS COCKTAIL RECEPTION took place on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, 6pm to 8pm, at The Omni, 333 Earle Ovington Boulevard, Uniondale.
